About this opportunity:
Within BCSS Core Networks Engineering unit, Software Production System (SPS) builds and operates a compelling state of the art Software Production System, that gives BCSS R&D and Ericsson a competitive advantage in 5G, 6G and Cloud Native engineering with simple and stable engineering environments to enable every engineer in Ericsson to reach their full potential, SPS provides many common development and verification services such as development clouds, verification clouds, telecom networks, software pipelines, lab infra and tools to enable E2E engineering productivity.
We are excited to launch a new position as head of Platform Engineering unit within SPS, Platform engineering is a relatively new and rapidly evolving field that combines elements of software engineering, AI, DX, DevOps, and infrastructure management to create a unified platform for building, deploying, and managing tools, services, and applications.
In essence, platform engineering involves designing, building, and operating a platform that provides a set of pre-defined services, tools, and infrastructure components to support the development, testing, and deployment of applications, while allowing development teams to focus on writing code rather than managing infrastructure.
What you will do:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Platform Engineering to lead our platform development teams and operations. This role requires a strategic thinker with a passion for technology and a strong background in engineering leadership. The successful candidate will drive the vision, strategy, and execution of our platform initiatives, ensuring robust, scalable, and high-performance solutions that support our key objective to increase R&D efficiency.
- Define and implement the platform engineering concepts such as IPD (Internal Developer Platform) that aligns with the BCSS Engineering strategy to reducing non-coding time and increasing coding efficiency by allowing development teams time to focus on writing code rather than managing infrastructure.
- Oversee the architecture, design, and implementation of scalable and resilient Platform Engineering concepts and solutions.
- Establish and monitor KPIs to evaluate platform performance and user satisfaction.
- Collaborate and seek continuous feedback from Engineering Units (PDUs) to prioritize platform initiatives and golden paths that will support the simplification of the evolving landscape in our Development and Test Environments
- Enable BCSS AI Ecosystem with industrialized assets, built on our AI Core Framework, available on our AI Marketplace
- Integrate, scale, and operate the required Gen AI Coding Buddy tools and common Gen AI Use cases supporting the BCSS R&D software development efficiencies targets.
- Continue to build and operate the BCSS Cloud Native Digital capabilities and Development tools.
- Continue to Build and operate key Continuous Integration and software pipeline services.
- Break down barriers to support a speedy execution in a high pace environment while working closely with product management, engineering units and operations teams to deliver seamless platform experiences.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to inform platform strategy.
- Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies that enhance platform capabilities.
The skills you bring:
- MSc level in a technical field or the equivalent level of knowledge
- 10+ years - Extensive Leadership in Software development and R&D
- Deep understanding of Cloud Native software development including continuous design, integration, deployment, and operation
- Experience in Development Environment tools, process and methods that support efficient development organizations.
- Track record of lead both technology and cultural changes across large R&D organization
- Excellent people/leadership and mentoring skills in line with Ericsson core values.
- A broad experience of the Ericsson product portfolio with a solid understanding of PDU’s and services needs to be successful.
- Ability to lead organizations into new ways of working and have a track record of setting and delivering to high standards.
- Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills, speak & write English fluently.
